Javonte’s mother, Melinda Smart, celebrated after her son was selected in the national team for FIBA. 

Smart went to Scotlandville Magnet High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Likewise, the player shined in high school basketball, leading the school to a state title as a freshman, earning MVP honours.
