Brian began his career in music as a producer of beats and called himself DJ Rockstar. Under that name he made a mixtape called “World Tour” but later he became Kid Ink and under this new name made series of mixtapes such as ”Crash Landing” and “Daydreamer”. These turned out to be pretty successful and gave him an opportunity to be included into “Freshman Class of 2012” of XXL Magazine. It was an important step in Kid Ink’s career but soon after that he managed to make even bigger one as he released his first album called “Up & Away”. It was released in 2012 by “Tha Alumni”, an independent label, and an interesting fact about this album is that all singing was done by Kid Ink himself, while the music was contributed by several different producers. “Up & Away” debuted at number. 20 on the Billboard’s top 200 chart and in the first week more than 20,000 copies were sold.
