Bloody Dunphys! The cast of Modern Family is headed to a psych ward (well, sort of) for their Halloween episode this year, and Us Weekly has exclusive pictures from the special episode “Halloween 3: AwesomeLand,” set to air on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

“Even though Halloween is Claire’s holiday, she allows Phil to take over this year, so instead of her usual fright-fest theme, he decides to turn the house into AwesomeLand!” reads ABC’s description of the upcoming episode.

In the pics, the Dunphy clan (minus Ty Burrell’s Phil) doesn’t appear amused by the patriarch’s Halloween choice. Claire (Julie Bowen) dons a scary nurse costume for one outfit while daughter Alex (Ariel Winter) rests on a hospital bed. Haley (Sarah Hyland) dresses up as another patient and son Luke (Nolan Gould) is strapped in a straitjacket.

Across town at the Pritchett household, Gloria (Sofia Vergara) has plans to be the Princess Fiona to Jay’s (Ed O’Neill) Shrek. He has other plans, however, and gets a “new sense of confidence” when he goes as Prince Charming instead.

As for Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet)? Cameron is “overwhelmed” by the holiday and Mitchell is too busy dealing with closing arguments for a huge case in court.
